I'll have to inform the captain about this plan, you ask Johnson if he's been cleared for EVA, okay?" "I'll check, but I'm pretty sure he isn't," Debbie replied. She moved away as O'Neill contacted the captain. Miles tapped his comm badge, "O'Neill to Sash. Sir, to further repair the sensor array, I need to go EVA. Ms. Weston is going with me, along with Mr. Johnson, if he's been cleared, which Ms. Weston is checking out now. Is this plan to your approval?" =^=Do whatever is necessary Ensign. You have my full confidence. Sash out.=^= Debbie returned fromher brief conversation with Johnson, unsurprised by his response. "I checked with Johnson and he is not cleared. Looks like it's just you and me Ensign." She smiled an inocent smile. (USS Nimitz- On the hull- Engineer Debie Weson- 1345) It had been a while since Debie had been on an EVA mission, and she had forgotten how uncomfortable those suits were. However, the old muscles kicked in and she was soon treking across the outside of the ships hull at a fair clip. She looked back to see that O'Neill wasn't having an easy time as she was. NRPG: Please note the different comm signal being used for the EVA suits- much like the BDU channel. RPG: =/=How you doing back there Ensign?=\= (reply O'Neill) =/= Well, we're almost there.=\= As they approached the sensor array she stpped and stared, not believing what she was seeing. You'd think that Starfleet would make some more comfortable ones.~ Miles thought to himself. He had been in an EVA suit a month or two before, however he didn't remember it being as uncomfortable as this was.   =/=How you doing back there Ensign?=\= =/=I feel like I'm walking in a suit of armor. Well, it kinda is, but this is different. I can't wait to get out of this thing.=\=   =/= Well, we're almost there.=\=   Upon arriving at the sensor dish, Miles saw Debbie stop and stare at the dish, or what was left of it. Miles couldn't help but stare too. Most of the dish was gone, however the actual emmiter was still in place, however about 25% was missing. ~Wow, that's not supposed to happen. This is going to be harder that I thought.~   NRPG: What I mean by emitter is that large circle in the middle of the dish, not the little line thingys in a circle around it, just to clarify things.   RPG: After a few minutes of thinking hard on a way to get the emitter partially working, he thought of an idea so crazy, it might work.   =/=I think I've got an idea. How about we take the emitter off of the ship with the tractor beam, and hold it a few dekameters in front of the ship and boost power to the emitter. Think of a satellite dish from the late 20th century. It's insane, but it might work, however I need to run a few calculations first. If not that, then we might have to make new sensor arrays from scratch, but that will take much more time and resources. What do you think?=\=   (Reply Weston) (Posted by Matt Kirk) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Nimitz - On the hull -Engineer Debbie Weson- 1346) Weston thought about O'Neill's idea. Crazy didn't begin to describe it, but right now, what else did they have. They were obviously going to need a lot more than they had the resources for at the moment. But there was a couple of things that bothered her. =/=Things looked pretty bleak in there=\= she motioned to inside the ship. =/=Do you think there is power to the trector beam? And then I assume you're heading to the subspace river. What happens when we hit that. Will whatever power we have hold. I mean, I don't think we want to lose all sensors.=\= She and O'Neill looked at each other for a minute, contemplating what to do next. Slowly an idea popped into her head. It was actually much like O'Neill's but with less probablity of disaster if it didn't work. =/=What if we did your idea, the whole satellite thing, with the sensory array from a shuttle. She felt much powerless in a ship that was dead in the water sorta speak. It was making her a bit frustrated. She got ready to open the comm, in her head formulating what she would say. “Kateb to Lieutenant Saleke.” (Reply from Saleke) “I have a problem here and you might be in the solution. The Nimitz sensors are offline and we don't know when they will be online. Could you use the trawlers own sensors to be our eyes?” (Reply from Saleke) “Long rang sensors is best... Saleke (jg) - 1405) Saleke was overseeing repairs to the lateral array sensors from the science station. Since Commander Troi and Lt. Commander Gideon had gone over to the Nimitz he was in charge of the Trawler and decided it was not logical to leave the bridge with the current dearth of command crew on the ship. Ensign O'Neill's engineering crew was proving quite capable of the necessary repairs. An incoming communication from the Nimitz got his attention and he routed it to the viewscreen. On screen he saw the Tac/Sc chief Kateb. =^= Kateb to Lieutenant Saleke.=^= "Yes Lieutenant this is Saleke on the Archimedes. How may I help you?" "I have a problem here and you might be in the solution.  The Nimitz sensors are offline and we don't know when they will be online.  Could you use the trawlers own sensors to be our eyes?" Saleke could see from the lookj in her eyes she was worried and nodded shortly to allay her concerns. "Affirmative Lt. Long range sensors on the Archimedes are active though not as efficient as the Nimitz's own sensors would be. The lateral array is currently offline but should be ready in 2.25 hours. I can feed sensor data to the Nimitz through a secure channel until the Nimitz sensors are once again online." "Long rang sensors is best... I don't want to have a surprise.  Kateb out!"   Saleke flipped the button that deactivated the channel and turned to Tactical and sdpoke in a flat and logical tone.  "Tactical report if you please Ensign."   (Reply: Ensign Slytherwald)   "Thank you Mr. Slytherwald. You are in the position of watching on behalf of both ships and I know you will be vigilant." The latter was spoken matter of factly, Saleke knew he was more than capable for the job.   Saleke began setting up a link to the Nimitz when Ensign Eseg`ne spoke up.   "Mr. Saleke, ships navigation and propulsion systems are all on a green for go status. Holding position and awaiting further orders." The young man had a hard to read expression on his face which puzzled the Vulcan for a moment as they looked at one another before Saleke nodded and spoke. "Very good Mr. Eseg`ne, thank you. Hold position." The man flashed a pleased smile and returned to looking at his readouts. Saleke considered him for a moment before deciding the human was still nervous and desiring to be useful, with nothing to do except monitor the ship's position he must feel like he was doing little.   "Thank you Ensign, continue as you are."   He turned to Tom Slythewrwald again. Saleke (jg) - 1408)   ''Well, as we don't need our weapons, I suggest we turn them offline and boost that and all other auxiliary power to our shields system.''   Saleke replied quickly to the tactical officer's suggestion. "That will do for the short term for the phasers ensign, keep photon torpedoes on full standby."   (Reply: Tom Slytherwald)   "Also there are 2 type II sensor probes listed in the ships manifest in the forward torpedo bay which we could make use of." The Vulcan considered their locale briefly. The Archimedes had been moved outside of the Nimitz which was now between them and the asteroid field. The warship was at the moment sensor blind and was being fed data from the Archimedes, probes had also been sent into the asteroid field and were being used to supplement the data being transferred to the ship.  The Archimedes long range sensors were at their maximum nominal efficiency and currently accumulating data at a distance of 8.7 light years according to the ships instrumentation. "If we launch the probes to the maximum range of our sensors we can extend their reach by an additional 3.3 light years according to my calculation,. The probes are listed as inactive and judging from the condition of the scientific equipment onboard..." Saleke looked briefly at the science console. "Logic would infer that they will need inspection before activation.   I would like for you to go to the forward torpedo bay, inspect and then activate the sensor probes and ready them for launch. We will then disperse them as quickly as you can have them ready to go."   (reply: Tom Slytherwald)   "Very good." Saleke nodded and returned to the science console to inspect the latest data on the quasar. Once a scientist always a scientist. "If you have any difficulties bringing them online contact me."   (Reply: Ensign Slytherwald, any)   (Posted by Charles) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Archimedes - Bridge - Lt. Saleke (jg) - 1415)   Saleke pressed the last button and stepped back from the console. When the board had confirmed acknowledgment of the sequence he reached forward and thumbed the communications control and spoke. "This is Lt. Saleke to Tac/Sc Chief Kateb, please acknowledge. As the answering signal came in he routed it to the view screen.   (Reply: Onyx Kateb)   "Affirmative Lt. Kateb. I have routed our sensor data through a secure channel to the Nimitz, you should be receiving a data flow now." He watched as she turned and spoke to Counselor Harrison who had been pressed into service at OPS and saw his affirmative nod. The logical choice would now be to route the data stream to the input nodes of the science station, the routine would be the same as receiving telemetry from one of the myriad of probes carried by the Nimitz for the purpose of scientific exploration, from there it could also be routed to the other stations. Routing it through the science station would also free up communications for future use. Saleke could have routed it directly to the science station from the Archimedes under other circumstances but with both ships on a higher state of alert such might have been misinterpreted by the more emotional beings on the bridge as a covert attack by an unseen enemy. This would have wasted valuable time as the situation was untangled and the Vulcan did not like to unnecessarily use energy, physical, mental or ships energy that could be better directed to other purposes.   (Reply: Onyx Kateb)   "Of course Lieutenant, we will continue to route the data until such time as the Captain deems it unnecessary. Is there anything else required by the Nimitz that the Archimedes may supply?"   (Reply: Onyx Kateb)   "Very well Lt. Archimedes out." He shut down the channel and returned to monitoring the repairs to the lateral array.   (Reply: Onyx Kateb, any)   (Posted by Charles)  Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Archimedes - Bridge - Lt. Saleke (jg) - 1605)   A beep and blinking light on the board gained the attention of the Vulcan who was scanning a nearby quasar and feeding the data to the Archimede's computer to be completely broken down and analyzed. The computer on the trawler was slower and not as updated as he would have liked but anything he was not able to finish here could be completed later on the Nimitz. Long range scanners were on passive scan at extreme range and watching for any approaching vessel and the system had been ordered to report any sighting immediately. The complete data stream including the long range passive scans were also being fed directly to the science station of the Nimitz and from there to the other boards on the bridge.   Saleke listened as the engineer made his report.   =/= Mr. Saleke, repairs have been completed to the sensors. Awaiting further orders.=/=   "Very good Ensign, return to the ship immediately." He tapped a series of commands into the console and after a couple of seconds data from the lateral array began feeding into the board thus covering the blind spot in the Archimedes' sensor net. Having long range sensors without the short range system was like driving an automobile manually without rearview mirrors or being farsighted, it took a lot more time and trouble to 'see' things up close that could be important or even threatening than it would otherwise and wasted valuable resources. As the computer digested the data on the quasar Saleke stood up and walked to the command chair and sat down slowly, this was the first time he had ever had the honor to do so and it was an intellectually 'interesting' experience.   From the chair he turned and looked around the cramped bridge of the vessel at its skeleton bridge crew who were looking bored but that could change in an instant. The tactical station was focused exclusively on watching for signs of enemy activity which kept Ensign Slytherwald busy but the young security guard manning the OPS console and the pilot were trying to find something to while away the time. The starfield in the viewscreen still showed the same background as it had for last several hours and not for the first time he wondered how the meeting had gone on the Nimitz and what had come of it.   ~I wonder how my family is doing?~ He thought. His parents would still be on the Nahru but he had heard nothing from them since leaving the Academy and arriving onboard the Nimitz, the same with his brother and sister. Saleke resolved to send them a message as soon as they had brought the trawler to Geneva, now would not be the time, keeping the location of the Trawler quiet was of paramount importance. He leaned back in the chair and began a light meditation to ease the passing of time.   (Reply: Any)   (Posted by Charles) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Archimedes- Lateral sensor repair crawlway-  Lt. Bending back down he replaced the cover with the magnetic wrench and got to his feet, it was going to be a long day tomorrow and he needed to get his rest now, the repairs to the exterior sensors would have to wait till tomorrow.   (USS Archimedes- personal quarters-  Lt. Saleke (jg) - 2230)   The quarters assigned to him had at one time belonged to one of the officers of the ship and the signs of occupancy were everywhere, Saleke stopped inside the door to absorb the surroundings before continuing inside. The room was not messy but cluttered, the man had been quite a pack rat it seemed. Equipment was arranged on the front desk and pictures, not holopictures but actual old style photocopied prints adorned the walls. Saleke stepped around an armchair covered with a paisley print to get to the replicator. ~At least there are no clothes draped over the furniture. ~   "Plomeek soup, hot and orange juice, chilled and with pulp." As the small door slid open the smell of the soup wafted out and he took it to the table, after clearing it off a bit he sat and ate. ~ Slightly salty but it will do for now.~ After he finished eating he cleared away the dishes and headed directly for the shower.  (USS Archimedes- personal quarters-  Lt. Saleke (jg) - 0500)   The Vulcan awaoke an instant before the alarm tone went off he had set, he looked around for a moment at the unfamiliar surroundings before getting to his feet and heading for the lavaratory for his morning preparations, Commander Troi and Lt. Commander Gideon would be leaving soon and he needed to get everything in order for a smooth transition, after they beamed over for the briefing he would take an engineer out to repair the external sensors. The report Commander Troi had requested had been completed and was on a PADD, he would give it to her before she left.   (USS Archimedes- personal quarters-  Lt. Saleke (jg) - 0600)   Saleke was on the bridge before shift change, he took the time to get an update on the ship's reports before the flop. The lateral array was still off line but was receiving power, he made two tests before looking up satisfied. A complete overhaul of the sensor systems on the ship would perhaps bring the sensors up to an acceptable level but he didn't have the time to do that, it would be better accomplished at a starbase. When Commander Troi came on the bridge he handed her the PADD.   (Reply: Commander Troi if desired.)   (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles)
